Midtown

Midtown Memphis, often referred to simply as Midtown, is a vibrant and eclectic district located in the central part of the city of Memphis, Tennessee. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the advent of streetcar lines contributed to the growth of Midtown. The availability of public transportation allowed for the development of streetcar suburbs, and Midtown became a popular residential area.  Over the years, Midtown has become known for its cultural and educational institutions. Institutions like Overton Park and the Memphis Zoo have been central to the area’s identity.  With the development of Cooper Young Historic District and Overton Square, Midtown’s economic health has thrived.

Today, Midtown Memphis is celebrated for its cultural vibrancy, historic charm, and diverse community. It remains a focal point for arts, entertainment, and community engagement in the city. The district’s history is marked by a combination of historic preservation and ongoing urban development.
